This page is the detail: how goods travel, what happens on the day and where the costs fall. If you want the wider picture, including how we install and how staircases, balconies and cellar doors are supplied, that is on our delivery and installation page.
Where we deliver
We deliver throughout the UK. Northern Ireland, the Scottish islands and the Isle of Man are by arrangement rather than at the standard rate, so ask us before you order.
Do you ship internationally?
Yes, certain products only, and always by individual arrangement. There is no standard international service and no automatic rate, so contact us for a quote before you order: email sales@diomet.co.uk or call 0114 243 9009 and tell us what you want and where it is going.
In practice, export is limited to what fits on a pallet: hinged glass floors and wine cellar doors, floor glass, well covers, balustrade components, Juliet balconies and smaller fabrications. Staircases, balconies and large fabrications are rarely economic to send overseas because of the freight. Contact us for a quote before purchasing rather than ordering and hoping.
Our export and international delivery page sets it all out: what an export quote is made up of, who pays import duty, how goods are crated and offloaded, transit times, voltage on electric units, and how the warranty works outside the UK.
How delivery is priced
Delivery cost for each item is shown on the product page and at checkout, and is generally calculated against your postcode and the weight of the goods.
On large items, a staircase, a balcony or a run of structural glass, the figure shown at checkout is an estimate rather than a quote. Those go on a dedicated vehicle and the real cost depends on the size of the load and the access at the far end. We work it out and tell you before anything is charged.
Lead times and stock
Deliveries should be received within the timescale given on the specific product listing. Many goods are available from stock, but items can go out of stock at short notice. If that happens on a multiple item order we will ship what we have and refund the rest. We contact you by email, so please make sure your address is right when you order.
Bespoke items are given a fabrication lead time and you will be contacted before delivery. Our guide lead times by product set out the usual ranges, and we will confirm yours before you order.
Who needs to be there, and what happens if nobody is
This depends on how the goods travel, and the difference matters.
Small items sent by parcel courier follow that courier's normal service. If nobody is in, they may leave the parcel where they judge it safe, down the side of a property or with a neighbour, and that counts as delivered. If you would rather that did not happen at your address, tell us when you order and we will add the instruction to the consignment.
Anything on a pallet or a dedicated vehicle is booked in with you first. We agree a delivery day before the goods leave us and we expect somebody to be there on it. If you cannot be in, tell us in advance: we can often leave the goods unsigned where you have confirmed that and accepted the risk of them being left. If nobody is there and that has not been agreed beforehand, the goods come back and a re-delivery charge applies.
Where a delivery depends on you providing people or lifting equipment to offload, there is no unsigned option. If the help is not there on the booked day, the goods return on the vehicle and a re-delivery charge applies regardless.
If goods are returned to us as undelivered and you want them sending out again, we are happy to do so, but a second delivery charge will be made.
Pallet and kerbside deliveries
Pallet deliveries are made as close as possible to the property, by tail-lift courier where the vehicle and the road allow it, and are kerbside only. The driver will not take goods into your house and will not remove or take back any packaging.
Most goods are delivered on an 18 tonne vehicle. If you are down a small road, a track or a restricted street, the driver will get as close as they can, so contact us before ordering if you need a quotation for a smaller vehicle.
Offloading
On a supply only order, offloading is your side of the job. Most items come off on the vehicle's tail lift and need nothing from you, but anything over roughly two metres is generally too large for a tail lift.
For those you will need either mechanical handling, a fork truck or a crane, or a team of people on site to take it off by hand. Most customers do not have lifting plant and arrange people instead, which works perfectly well as long as they are there on the booked day.
Where we are installing, we bring the goods with the fitting team and offloading is on us.
Inspect before you sign
Check the goods on arrival and note any damage before signing. Damage in transit is far easier to resolve on the day than a week later.
