316 contains molybdenum, which makes it far more resistant to chlorides. Outdoors, near a pool, or within a few miles of the coast, 304 will eventually tea stain and pit where 316 will not. Indoors the difference hardly matters, but we stock 316 throughout so the same bracket works in both places and nobody ends up with rust marks running down a wall.
A wall fixed handrail carries real load, because sooner or later somebody puts their whole weight on it. What fails is almost never the bracket. It is what the bracket is screwed into.
Plasterboard needs a heavy duty fixing back to the stud, or a resin anchor into the block behind it. A soft or perished mortar joint is not a fixing at all, so fix into the brick rather than the bed. Screws are sold separately under fixings and fasteners, because the right screw for steel, timber and masonry are three different things.
Tube to suit is under handrail tube and posts, and the plates and brackets that hold a post down are under baluster base fittings.
This is made to order in our own Sheffield workshop, so it can just as easily be made to your dimensions instead. Send a photo and rough sizes and we will price it.
