The sizes above are your structural opening, not the balcony.

A Juliet balcony has to fix back to solid structure at each side, so it is made wider than the opening it guards. Allow 150mm each side, about 300mm wider overall. Choose the size of the opening itself and we build to suit it.

Check the typical detail drawing (PDF) before you order. It shows the opening, the overall width and where it fixes.

The ornate half of our curved pair. It projects approximately 250mm with a steel mesh floor, and carries decorative scroll patterns along the top, along the bottom, and as a central feature.

Built from 50 x 12mm solid flat bar uprights and handrail with 12mm solid infill bars. Heavier flat sections than the Lincoln's tubular rails, which is what lets it carry the scrollwork without looking busy.

Made in standard widths or exactly to your opening. Against a cheaper quote it pays to compare like with like: bar thickness, whether the scrollwork is forged or pressed, the finish, and whether it carries UKCA certification.

Sizes

The sizes above are the common door and window opening widths, not a limit. Any size can be made exactly to your opening, so if yours falls between the listed sizes, or outside them altogether, tell us the opening width and we will price it. Measure the structural opening, not the door.

If there is existing ironwork on the property, send us a photograph and we can work the scroll detail to match it.

* The 2100mm size has a delivery condition. See Delivery at the foot of the page before you order it.

Take the widest of three measurements across the structural opening rather than an average. The balcony has to cover the opening at its widest point and the fixings land outside it, so the widest figure is the one that matters. Our Juliet balcony measuring guide shows where to measure and how much we add each side.

UKCA marked, and compliant for domestic use

UKCA marked to BS EN 1090-2, as all our structural steelwork is. That is a legal requirement rather than a badge, and building control will want the Declaration of Performance when a project is signed off. Not every Juliet balcony sold online carries it.

The balustrade is designed in accordance with BS 6180, the code of practice for barriers in and about buildings, for domestic applications, at 0.74kN/m loading and 1100mm high. Commercial, public and multi-occupancy buildings are designed to higher imposed loads, so if it is going anywhere other than a private dwelling, tell us at enquiry stage and we will design and price it to the right loading. Structural calculations are available on request either way.

Our balcony and Juliet building regulations guide covers guarding heights, loadings and building control sign-off in plain English.

The mesh platform

The curve projects about 250mm and is floored with welded steel mesh, so it is a step-out rather than a rail across the opening. Enough for a few pots, enough to clean the windows from, somewhere for the pets to sunbathe.

Mesh rather than a solid tray for good reasons at this depth: water and leaves fall straight through instead of collecting against the wall, daylight still reaches the window below, and it keeps the weight down, which matters when the whole thing is carried on wall fixings alone.

If you want more than a standing area, the Lincoln is the same idea at approximately 300mm, and a step-out balcony goes to 1200mm on brackets with composite decking.

How it is made

  • 50 x 12mm solid flat bar uprights and handrail
  • 12mm solid infill bars at compliant centres
  • Decorative scroll patterns to the top, the bottom and as a central feature
  • Welded steel mesh platform, projecting approximately 250mm
  • Fully welded construction
  • Made 150mm wider than the door opening on each side as standard, so the fixings land in solid masonry rather than at the edge of the reveal
  • Hot dip galvanised as standard, with powder coating in a range of colours as an option above. The galvanising matters more on scrollwork than on a plain design, because there are far more welds and tight sections for water to sit in. More on our material and finish standards.
  • Wall fixings are not supplied: your installer sources anchors to suit the substrate, because the right fixing depends entirely on what you are fixing to
  • Structural calculations available on request
  • 10 year structural warranty

Installation

  • Straightforward to fit with reasonable DIY skills
  • Basic fixing instructions are provided, and we are a phone call away if you want to talk it through
  • Installation by our own site teams is available as an optional extra. Ask for it with your enquiry and we will price it alongside the balcony.

Working at height is your responsibility. Use properly erected access equipment.

We do not assess what your wall is built from. On a period property it is worth having that confirmed before you order. We certify the balcony; we never certify the structure it is fixed to.

Delivery

Delivered to mainland UK, with the cost added at checkout. See our delivery information for excluded zones.

* 2100mm openings. At that width the balcony is too long for a standard tail-lift vehicle, so it travels on a flat-bed and you will need to arrange offloading at your end. Two or three people will manage it, or a telehandler or forklift if you have one on site. Worth arranging before the delivery date rather than on it.

Call 0114 243 9009 or email sales@diomet.co.uk with your opening width if you want to check anything first.

Other designs in the range

Not sure which suits your elevation? Our Juliet balcony buying guide compares the designs and covers sizing, fixings and planning permission.

Fixings

Every fixing needed to assemble the balcony is supplied with it.

Wall and floor fixings are not supplied on a supply only order. The right anchor depends on what your building is made of and what condition it is in, and that is not a call we can make from here. Fixing points come drilled ready and your installer selects anchors to suit the substrate. Where we install, we take that decision on site and provide them.

Survey and installation

We survey, we install nationwide with our own teams, and we sell supply only if you have your own fitter. The detail is in the product description above. For a price on your job, email us your postcode.
